Committed to Escondido’s High Schools

Thank you for having elected me to serve our schools. I have worked to implement long-range plans to improve academic programs and maintain state-of-the-art facilities. Because students have diverse learning styles, we have expanded educational options districtwide, such as Del Lago Academy, our innovative magnet school based on science and technology, our learning centers at Escondido, Orange Glen, and San Pasqual high schools, a Middle College program at Orange Glen, Wellness Centers, many new Career-Technical Education classes and programs, and expanded opportunities for lifelong learning through Adult Education.

However, our work is never finished. 

We must strive for continuous improvement in meeting the high expectations of our parents and community. We must prepare students for success in college and offer robust career-technical education. We must recruit and retain high-quality teachers and counselors. We must provide extra support to students—tutoring, counseling, and college guidance. We must improve two-way communication between the school and parents. We must foster good citizenship and character education. And, above all, we must ensure that students always have access to in-person instruction while providing safe and secure campuses.

I pledge to continue being a good steward of taxpayer dollars, ensuring that budget priorities protect classrooms, not administrative offices.

As a lifelong Escondido resident, I offer my commitment to Escondido’s high schools. I respectfully ask you to vote for Jon Petersen.
